Activities and Achivements

About the Department

“Even the department is handicapped in ground facilities and training gadget, but to achieve the vision and mission of the sports; the department of physical education had brought medals from district level to National levels”. The department of Physical Education started its sports activities for the academic year 2018-2019 from 4th June 2018 under the headship of Prof. Anilkumar.N. The department had its first meeting with Kerala Technological University authorities for the fixture meeting, so as to prepare the sports calendar for the year 2018-2019, so as the college to participation for various sports & games. A similar meeting had also held at the Physical Education department under the guidance of HOD. The students from all branches including M.Tech discuss to participate various tournaments as per the said university sports calendar.

The college team had participated for the following tournaments. Athletic championship, Badminton (men &women) Cricket (men) Chess (men & women) Football (men), volleyball (men & women) and Netball (Men) respectively. The college women athletic team had lifted the overall Runner’s –Up’s trophy among the 104 colleges with 19 points, participated for the 1st APJ Technological University Athletic Championship held at Kerala University Synthetic stadium, Thiruvanthapuram. KRISHNA.R.S (S1EC) secured Gold medals in 800 mtrs and 1500mtrs; POOJA. A (S1ME) secured Silver medal respectively. The women team members (ARYA LEKSHMI R -S1EEE, ANCHANA S MOHAN -S3IT, AGNES FELIX -S3CE & KRISHNA R S -S1EC) lifted the Silver medals in 4×400 mtrs. In overall the college secured the 6th position.

The college badminton men & women teams also participated for the A –zone intercollegiate tournaments organised by college of Engineering, Trivandrum and secured the fourth position in both the section. However, in Individuals championship, ROHIT JAYAKUMAR (S1IT) selected for the Inter-University Championship. The college men’s cricket team under the leadership of ARIFKHAN. (S7 IT) secured the second Position in A- Zone competitions and Third position in the Inter-zone championship held at Kerala Agricultural College ground and Trivandrum Medical college ground respectively. However, in Individuals championship, ARIFKHAN.(S7IT) & JIBU JEEMON (S7 ME) were selected for the Inter-University Championship.

The college Chess men & Women teams also participated in the A- zone & Inter Zone competitions held at Government Engineering College, Barton Hill & College of Engineering, and Trivandrum respectively, and secured the fourth position in both the section. However, in Individuals championship, MERIN ROSE TOM (S7IT) selected for the Inter-University Championship.

College Men’s Football team also secured the Second Position in the A- Zone Inter Collegiate tournaments held at Mar- Baselious ground Beside the lack of ground the college both men and women volley Ball team also participated for the A- Zone volley Ball tournaments organised by Lourdes Matha College of Science & Technology, Kuttichal Kattakada,Trivandrum.the college women team had lifted the Third position trophy in the tournaments and men section secured the fourth position, ANANDHU PRAVEEN R V (S5 EEE) qualified for the Inter University selection Trials. For the first time the college Men’s team participated for the NetBall Championship held at Kerala University stadium, and secured the fourth position. ANEESH RAJ S (S2 M.Tech) selected for the All India Inter University Championship.

“Even with constrain over the ground, the student’s had qualified to represent All India Inter University Tournaments. MERIN ROSE TOM (S7 IT) had selected to represent KTU under the discipline Chess at the All India Inter University Chess championship held at VIT Vellor. ARIF KHAN S.S (57 IT) & JIBU JEEMON (S7 MECH) had had selected to represent KTU under the discipline Cricket at the All India Inter University held at Shemoga, Bangalore. ROHIT JAYAKUMAR (S1IT) who is Kerala Ranking 1st and All India ranking 19th also qualified to represent South Zone Inter University Badminton Champioship, held at SRM University Chennai. ANEESH RAJ S (S2 M.Tech) participated for the All India Inter University Championship, held at Tamil Nadu Physical Education University”. Not only University tournaments, but the department took the effort to participate for the championships organised by the “Kerala State sports Council”. ARIF KHAN S.S (57 IT) secured Bronze Medal (100mtrs) in the Trivandrum District, Athletic Championship, held at Chandraseharan Nair Stadium and ANEESH RAJ S (S2 M.Tech) representing, the Trivandrum District, secured the Second position in the Senior State Net ball Championship held at Pattanamthitta.

“Even with the lack of ground, advance facilities and Training gadgets the Department of Physical Education had put Blood and sweat to hunt and squeezed the talents hidden within the students to represent college from Intercollegiate level to Interuniversity and from District Level to National Level”.
